Parador de Ronda - extremely romantic Nov 13, 2013
Paradors are luxury hotels, usually in historic buildings, dotted throughout Spain, and the Parador in Ronda has one of the most spectacular locations of any hotel I’ve stayed in. it’s in a former town hall, perched right on the edge of the Tajo de Ronda – the beautiful gorge that’s the main reason you would come to Ronda in the first place. We stayed in a standard room, but as the lady said, it was one of the nicest – we had a huge balcony facing out over the town square and I strongly suspect we got a nicer room than normal because it was low season and they weren’t full. All the standard rooms are very large, by European standards. The luxury rooms face out over the gorge itself.

The parador has a small swimming pool, a bar and a cafeteria. I never saw the bar or café open, which might have something to do with it being low season, or might have been bad timing. There’s also a lovely terrace out over the gorge and near a path where there’s usually someone busking classical Spanish guitar. The hotel is very nicely decorated, although the lobby has clearly suffered a little from early nineties regen, as there is an utterly incongruous red steel superframe over the entrance and a slightly strange glass floor on the top floor of the bedrooms, where you can get a lovely view of the top of the heads of people in the lobby. The lounge area is very classy, however, and the wicker chairs on the terrace are perfect for curling up with a book. Wifi codes are available in the rooms. Breakfast was included, and was a very impressive buffet of local meats, fresh fruit, nice juices and fish as well as omelettes or scrambled eggs if you ordered it.

This is quite an expensive hotel, by local standards; we paid about £100 a night and that was with a small online discount. But I think that it is worth it for the location and the level of luxury.

Amazing view Dec 21, 2010
This hotel was perhaps the most spectacular hotel I have ever stayed at. The hotel is perched on top of a cliff that seems like it's about 500-1000 feet high. There are also views of the main bridge which is pretty crazy looking as well.

The room was very spacious. There was enough room for two separated twin beds and two sofas facing each other, including a balcony. One look through the curtains and you can see why this hotel is spectacular. You have an amazing view of the entire valley below. The beds were quite comfortable.

The hotel offers free WiFi, which is definitely nice. But the breakfast left something to be desired. It was definitely mediocre. The best part about it was the coffee. If you ask for milk, they steamed it for you (it really does make a difference compared to pouring in cold milk).

The location was kind of hard to find. It is located in a small plaza near the bridge, but there are only one or two very small signs with a one lane opening leading to the area to temporarily park your car while you check in.

One not so great thing about this hotel... when I was staying there, it was rainy and because the room overlooked a valley with nothing to shield it, it got VERY windy and fairly noisy in the room. That is really the only thing I can fault the hotel for.

Ronda is a small town and you only need one or two days here and if you do I highly recommend staying at this hotel. Not only will you not regret it but I doubt the other hotels in Ronda are this nice and have views of the bridge and the valley. It is truly an amazing place.
