Parador de Plasencia Reviews
Another worderful Parador Jun 07, 2013
After our success with the Parador de Caceres we were heading for the Parador de Plasencia for the night. This Parador was also located behind the old city walls and having learnt the lesson of driving around in the narrow streets made us head straight for the parking garage and ask there if they had a couple of rooms. Luckily they had and we therefore entered the garage. The garage had a car lift that took our car up a couple of floors and the parking under the hotel. Using a car lift is quite fun and it was only the second time I had experienced it.
We took the small person elevator up to the reception area and were greeted by two nice and smiling Spanish ladies who both spoke perfectly English with a nice and rather charming Spanish accent. The booking procedure was as serious as the last Parador but we were given each our own double room on the third floor after 10 minutes.
The Parador was housed in a former convent, built in the 15th century and the Parador had kept its stunning, original architecture, including spacious hallways, archways and courtyards. Again we were amazed of the spacious halls and inner courtyards. I was especially taken by the fact that they had put windows in the arches toward the main inner yard so it was a part of the indoor area. This large hall connected the hotel to most of its facilities like the breakfast room, restaurant and the bar. It was also the main access to the elevator and stairs that would take you to the rooms.
We were both on the third floor and after passing a couple of rooms filled and fitted with decorative artifacts from a distant time we reached the rooms. Again I was surprised, mainly because of the size of my room. I actually have to say the rooms, because there were actually two rooms, with a kind of living room as the first, with the bedroom at the end. The living room had a couple of chairs and a TV while the bedroom had a nice king size bed. This hotel had more old fashion furniture but they fitted very well this former convent. The bathroom was far more old fashion than the Parador we stayed at the day before but the quality of the fittings were nice and it was certainly a delightful hotel room for the 115 euro that we had to pay per night with breakfast.
I had a window that faced the more modern part of Plasencia and looking out gave me an insight of how high I and the old part of town was located above the city that had grown around it. The hotel is situated in the historic centre of Plasencia, which is a treat. The hotel is located in a quite corner of the old town, which is nice as well. When you step out of the hotel you are surrounded by magnificent buildings and clean cut threes. There is a small square less than 100 meters away where there are some restaurants, a tourist office and a huge church. Some 500 meters away you find the old town square, which was quite vibrant and full of these small nice local shops that have been removed from many towns by huge international brand stores and what a pity that is.
The hotel is really recommendable and you will also love the city itself
