Parador de Caceres Reviews
A fabulous hotel Jun 06, 2013
Our end goal of the coming night was the capital of Extremadura Caceres, which fitted well with the time of day. We had not booked anything so we just headed for the city center in order to follow one of the hotel signs that were along the roads in the city. After consulting our travel guides, we decided to go for the Parador that seemed to be a great place according to the books. The biggest problem turned out to be finding the hotel. I guess we drove around the inner center of Caceres 3 times before we ended in front of the closed gate to the old town.
The gate to the inner city where the Parador was located was closed but a call on the phone near the gate lowered the blockade and we could enter. There was a small parking area belonging to the hotel near the Parador but as quite full so we just parked the car to see if they had a couple of rooms. Entering the old part of town was like stepping back in time and entering the Parador was in the same level. The Parador de Caceres is located next to the ancient Roman and Arab walls, and San Juan Church is just 200 metres away. The parador itself is set in a 14th-century stone palace and all the palaces surrounding the hotel along with the impressive wall was a stunning setting. We finally found the entrance after walking around the whole Parador and entered some magnificent stone stairs to the reception.
We arrived at the same time as a small group of French tourists and we had to wait a while before we were served. Luckily they still had rooms and we were getting double rooms both of us for 115 euro a night inclusive breakfast, which we both found impressive and we had not even seen the rooms yet. The inner part of the palace was truly impressive with loads of stone arcades and inner courtyards all renovated the best ways. The hallways include modern décors alongside authentic features, such as vaulted ceilings, antique furnishings and Knights amour everywhere. Before getting our rooms we when out to re-park the car because we had parked in a really bad spot according to our receptionist. He moved his own bike and we managed to squeeze the car in next to the tourist office that was located the same place.
The room was amazing, a little bit dark but that would qualify as cozy or romantic if I had brought a lady but the most amazing was the quality of the furniture and the restoration of the room. I had half of and arch in my room and a huge double bed, all furniture fitted really well to the surroundings and I must say I was quite pleased with what we had found. The room was decorated in neutral color tones and the room was equipped with air conditioning, heating and a minibar. The bathroom was modern and one of the best things was a walking shower.
We quickly went down to the bar to have a cold beer and smile at our good fortune and decided on the spot that we would try to stay there a couple days more. Unfortunately that was not possible but we still ended having a great time there. I would at anytime return to this Parador.

Parador de Caceres Overview
C/ Ancha, 6, Caceres 10003
Gothic, renaissance and baroque combine in this wonderful 14 c. palace founded by Diego Garcia de Ulloa, Knight of Santiago. The interior decoration is marked by the wonderful patio and the original decorative elements. As for the spacious and comfortable guestrooms they are tastefully decorated in soft tones.
