Affordable and very clean Jun 24, 2010
We stayed at the Parador Margarita for two nights and three days, June 6th to 8th, arriving from Mexico City. The lady I met at the front desk was very helpful, our reservation was made online and there were no problems checking in. Even though reservations are made online they will only charge daily. We booked a day tour for the following day which started at 6:00 a.m. but breakfast was usually prepared for 7:00 a.m. They made a special effort for us and arranged for a packed breakfast to be delivered to the hotel (most hotels in the area provide a packed breakfast for people on tour). Word of caution if you book a tour enquire if they make a breakfast stop, apparently a buffet breakfast stop was included in ours and we were not informed so we had the packed breakfast for lunch as lunch was not part of our tour. The cost of the hotel was US$50/night with a free breakfast.

Prices at the hotel for stays are advertised in Pesos and a few dollars cheaper than the online rates but not by a huge savings.

The hotel is about 20 to 25 minutes walk from the San Cristobal bus station and $20.00 Pesos by cab. It is very easy to find if you walk take Avenida Insurgentes (that is the street you will be on when you exit the bus station) and walk down till you get to Felipe Flores street, take a right and walk down Felipe Flores till you get to Parador Margarita. There are hostels and reasonably priced hotels all along the way from the bus station and they are all in the city center. There are also numerous coffee shops and small grocery stores if you need supplies.

The grounds of the hotel are immaculately clean and well maintained, a small restaurant area is set up for breakfast, I don't think they prepare lunch or dinner. About one block or less from the hotel are many restaurants and tour desk, I think there are just a few tour companies but all the agencies, hotels etc accept bookings for them, there is also a tour desk at the bus station, shop around for the best rate.

The rooms are spacious and we selected a double room which had an enormous bed plus a huge couch which I suppose if needed can double as a bed, so essentially I think that room can sleep at least three. There is cable television (English and Spanish) small breakfast table with two chairs, complimentary bottled water is always replaced, alarm clock, two bedside tables with drawer and sufficient lighting. A small closet area is provided with shelves and hangers, a separate area before the bath with sink/counter top, mirror, and blow dryer.

The bath room has a shower, great hot water with lots of pressure and even a small window in the bathroom, the bathroom and toilet is very clean. Clean white towels, rags, soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided.

The only thing I would have changed about this room was that I found it a bit cold, there was a chimney of some sought but I doubt it was operational, there was no heat in the room as I did not see any temperature control mechanism. There were sufficient blankets so that was not a major inconvinience, the fresh air that you woke up to and the sound of birds in the morning made up for the cold night. I would have no hesitation staying there again.
Very well maintained lawn
Two floors with rooms
Seating area outside the room
