What a gem Nov 15, 2011
What a hidden gem this place is. It was recommended to us by our concierge as a place where the locals go to eat and luckily we took his advice. It looks at first glance a bit like a german beer hall, long and narrow with lots of wood panelling, long tables, sometimes shared with other patrons. Service is typical Venice and Italian ie a bit snooty and sniffy, and you have to be assertive to get a table. The place was absoultely packed when we walked in about 9pm, full of italian locals.

The food was amazing, simple and homely but oh so tasty, just like your mama would make. We sat for a meal from the menu but you can also order tapas style nibblies and stand at the bar. We had the specialty of the house for antipasti; mussels and clams steamed in a gorgeous white wine and garlic reduction followed by the sepia pasta for primi and finished with a fried seafood platter, full of fish, prawns, sardines etc. Delicious. The whole meal for 2, including a litre of house wine, bread and water came out to just over 60 euro. Very reasonable for Venice.
