A security risk Nov 23, 2008
I booked into this hotel on a spur of the moment decision, as i was with a group of 5 holiday makers, and 2 were staying here (the 2 i knew best), 3 elsewhere. I hadn't planned to spend this much money, but the hotel looked spectacular, and the welcome and introduction they received from the front desk staff was amazing.
While i cannot fault the room, hotel setting, services or general staff attitude, i had a serious security breach which was not rectified to a sufficient standard. We left the hotel one night, and (naively perhaps in hindsight - but this is a prestige and expensive hotel) left our safe box keys attached to our room keys, and left them at reception. We returned late and went straight to bed. When i checked my wallet -which had been in the 'safe' box- the next morning i found 4000baht and $100 (Singapore - where i was due to travel next) missing from it. My friends who were staying two doors down also had money missing. After reporting this to first the assistant, then general manager we were promised a full investigation. After several 'investigations' by Peter the manager we were still no closer to any kind of resolution, with him going in circles saying it was 'most unusual' and that it had never happened before. He further said there was 'no evidence' of any incident, or of us having any money in the first place! After getting absolutely nowhere i suggested he deduct the money i lost from my bill, at which point he insinuated that i'd fabricated the whole affair, questioning why i had booked on the spur of the moment and saying that i didn't have the money to stay there. I have never felt so livid and violated in my entire life, not only was there to be no resolution - but i was accused of being a liar by the very staff who are supposed to be responsible for maintaining our safety and security while staying at this so called prestige resort. I am a fair man - so again i say aside from this unfortunate incident the hotel is pretty good, but this experience has permanently tainted my vision of it. If you do chose to stay here (i would not recommend it in any proximity), at least make sure you never leave your safe key and door key in the same location.
The 'safe' my money was stolen f…
