Papal Audience Jun 03, 2011
If you arent in Rome during the Summer, when throngs of tourists around, and you want to see the Pope it can be a little tricky. I wanted to write this because I had quite an adventure getting to this event. Every Sunday that the Pope is in Rome he holds an audience. In the summer it is in the main square but during the off season he has it in a building to the left of St.Pete's. First you have to go through the metal detectors and then to the right of St. Peter's to where a Swiss guard is standing. There is a hallway that looks as though you should not enter it. Just ask the Swiss guard for a ticket to the Papal Audience. All of the other tourists will be timid and will not go up to the guard.

Next take your ticket and cross the square, go under the columns and off to your right and the left of St. Pete's is another gated entry point guarded by the Swiss. Show your ticket and follow everybody else. It's a great show for free and everybody gets blessed by the Pope. It's is one of the best things you can do while in Rome.

Your usual Vatican attire is required so leave your wife beater and sandals at the hotel. Not sure what time it is at but it's in the morning.
