The best Mexican place in San Francisco Feb 02, 2011
I ate at this place at least once a week for over four years. It is the BEST taqueria in San Francisco.

If you want to splurge get the steak and prawn burritto with cheese- it works out to over 12 dollars if I remember correctly but it may be the best thing you'll ever eat.

If you're on a budget then just get two tacos with steak or chicken. They come with free chips and it's usually enough to fill you up.

The regular burritos are huge San Francisco-style monsters, and you likely won't be able to finish it in one sitting.

If you want good Mexican food, you can't go to fancy modern restaurants or family friendly chains... you usually have to go to an ugly little taqueria on the corner. Pancho Villa at first glance is not very impressive looking and it has uncomfortable little stools for seating but it's not unclean. The food is almost as good as food from a little hut across the border, but without the Montezuma's Revenge.

They have a big menu but you can't go wrong with a burrito. When you order they make it for you as you go along so you can customize your burrito with different kinds of tortillas, meat, beans and salsa. Although I can't say I see the point of whole wheat tortillas and tofu burritos... somehow I don't think that's really Mexican and health food usually doesn't come to mind when you eat at a taqueria. Of course the portions are way to big regardless of what you order. Unless you're really hungry might want to split your order or get a "baby burrito" which is still pretty big. This place is always crowded, even late at night. But once you order, it's really quick. They also serve churros and variety Mexican beverages like horchata.
