Panama Railroad Panama City Reviews
Panama Railroad and a whole lot more Jul 31, 2008
We wanted to take the train accross the Istmus and our B&B staff at The Balboa Inn recommended to take an enhanced package with their trusted taxi driver Raul. He picked us up at the Inn, dropped us at the train station in nearby Corrozal and while we enjoyed a beautiful morning ride along the Gatun lake, he took the normal road to pick us up again in Colon (not a safe place to hang around!).
From there he took us to the Gatun locks which were awesome. You could almost touch the ships and we were the only visitors! After seeing a few big containerships come through, we drove accross the locks to Ft. Lorenzo, at the mouth of the Chagres river, the through adjacent national park. Never heard so many monkeys and saw a few too. The fortress is impressive and the views are spectacular.
On the way back we made a stop at Playa Diablo. Again, we were the only souls on the beach.
Then Raul drove us back to Panama City, making a late lunch stop along the way.
All this for $ 120 + train fare. Panama rocks ! We'll be back. Thanks Raul and Balboa Inn for this incredible day.
