It turned out that that was pretty much irrelevant and we could have caught any bus but it worked out in the end because we got there early and could still enjoy the day and some of the sun. It´s a good idea to wake up early. Keep the blinds open and wake up with the sun.
So we ended up taking the chicken buses for a ride to Panajachel (four in total). The fir…

Pana
We debated about going to Pana which is on Lake Atitlan. We got mixed recommendations. But eventually decided to take a shuttle there because the chicken bus would have required 4 bus changes. It took us 3 hours to get there. The 3 couchsurfers we tried contacting didn't get back to us until after we had already checked into a hostel for the night. The place we selected was a block from the lake and away from the big touristic area. It was called Casa…

Before actually arriving at our destination, we had a quick stop in Sololá before going on our way to Panajachel. Another pretty town, similar to Chichi, with lots and lots of colors all over! Panajachel is another must-see town if in the area. Beautiful town on Lake Atitlán, however a bit touristy also. We managed to find a hostal for dirt cheap . . . not the Hilton though! Otherwise, “Pana” is a cute town located on Lago Atitlán, where we cou…

Woke up, left at 8am for Chichicastenago. Got there after about 1.5 hours on mountainy road. At least this was on a direct micro that wasn't picking up passengers all way like the chicken bus. No insult to the town, I know it's got this reputation of being this great indigienous market, but I guess having been to the markets in Peru and Mexico, a lot of the Chichicastenago stuff was kinda a repeat, and comparatively, the market was a lot smaller than others I had been …

Do not pay the 200Qs to get to Santa Catarina Agua Caliente......You can always tuk tuk it there for a fraction of the cost!! Fuck those boat hustlers that keep trying to peddle those private rides.

After a week of city life and a good week of Spanish school we left to see some more of Guatemala. We took a tourist van from Antigua to Panajachel down a road that 9 years ago when I visited Guatemala was considered too much of a security risk. Well we made it, so maybe things have improved. Panajechel or Pana is on a beautiful lake, Lake Atilan, surrounded by dorment volcanos and Mayan villages some of which have no roads going to them. It is a resort town, havin…
