Amazing personal service and attention in downtown San Francisco Feb 17, 2009

With rates starting around $240/night, Hotel Palomar is not the kind of hotel I'd typically choose--I'm more of a Quality Inn in the suburbs kind of gal. But, when in San Francisco for a conference, which my work was paying for, Palomar was the cheapest option and very convenient. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and would definitely considering forking over the cash when I return to SF on a personal, not business, trip.

===== Location =====

Excellent location in the heart of Downtown San Francisco, at the intersection of the SOMA District, Financial District, and Union Square. The Moscone Convention Center is a short one and a half block walk from the hotel.

Shopping is aplenty, with small boutiques, a Westfield shopping plaza, and the towering Nordstrom's and Bloomingdale's within a very short walk. There are also many nearby restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes and pocketbooks (from fast food to ethnic fare to upscale bistros).

The Powell/Hyde Cable Car turnaround is a block away from the hotel, providing easy access to Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz tours.

===== Service =====

The service at the hotel is incredible--what really puts Palomar Hotel over the top! Front desk employees are friendly and helpful, and gave us great dining recommendations.

I came down with food poisoning on my second night in SF. A friend of mine, called the front desk, and asked them to go into her room in the hotel, get her Nutri Grain bars, then bring them to me (since I hadn't eaten in about 18 hours). They did it quickly--and the guy even went to the nearby Walgreen's to get me some Gatorade! Incredible!

===== Decor & Amenities =====

The hotel has a very contemporary style. The lobby, while small, has a stunning parquet floor and a hip light fixture. Rooms have a soft, patterned carpet with minimalistic beds and walls. The decor overall is very nicely done.

Rooms have plasma TVs and DVD players. Free wifi is available throughout the hotel.

There is a business center, exercise facility, and restaurant on the fifth floor. Free wine is served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. Free coffee and tea is served in the morning.
