Comfort and luxury on the cheap! Nov 10, 2008
I found this property to be absolutely amazing! It's a little ways out of the city centre, but only a block away from 2 different tube stations, so very accessible. Plus there are some great pubs nearby, not to mention the one downstairs, which as a smoking patio, a covered, enclosed deck area and plenty of seating. The rooms are phenomenal, with actual wooden bunk beds, rather than flimsy metal bunks. They are so comfortable, I'm pretty sure that they use real mattresses rather than just ordinary foam.
I had one minor issue, but it was down to an error at reception, since I was supposed to switch rooms (no one notified the cleaner that I was staying put, and they removed my bags - panic when I got back late that night!). Thankfully, it all worked out and the staff was very apologetic. Would totally recommend this place to anyone visiting London - I'll be staying there next time I go over! |

This place is so good I was tempted not to tell other people so it won't be booked when I go again Mar 13, 2008
It is hard to find affordable lodgings in London at least if you are american and paying in dollars. This place is worth every penny that you do spend. Unlike so many other hostels this place has the ambiance of a luxury residance. Read the description on the hostelbookers website because everything is true. Although I would recomend this hostel based on ambiance, location (so close to the metro station and bus lines but it a nice neighborhoods in and of it self),and excellent value for the money it is also an excellent choice for couples traveling together. With so many hostels the value is undercut because although the price for one bed is reasonable you have to pay for two beds...not with Palmers lodge. They have a 12 bed mixed dorm with double beds and you only have to book one bed for two people. Each bed has it's own locker and the bed itself is curtained in for privacy with a self area to put whatever things that you want near to you while you sleep. The room is multi leveled so if you are in a group of 2 or 3 couples you could book all the beds on the upper level of that room and really have your own room.
The breakfast buffet is included with the cost of the room and served excellent food that truely added to the value of staying there. My only complaint about the place is I wish they offered guests a refridgerator to use as they do provide a microwave and I had purchased food at the market to eat later and had no place to store it. In addition to offering a locker with every bed this hostel also provides a locker room so if you arrive before check in you can still secure your back as well has being able to keep your stuff safe if you are site seeing after check out. If your budget isn't as tight as mine this hostel also has private rooms: it makes for a wondefull hotel not just a hostel. Enjoy your trip to london: stay at this hostel. |

Ok but not great Dec 08, 2007
It's a very nice old building with a nice atmosphere, but the toilets and bathrooms were always very dirty, and also there was no light in the toilet for 2 days. But other than that is was all fine, and the staff was nice. The shared livingroom is huge and there is access to the internet on computers.
So just take some flip-flops for your visits to the toilet and you'll be fine;) Part of the London, december 2007 travel blog |

…black cabs in my last post so I won't go there again; we hopped in one to get to our first destination outside of an airport: Palmer's Lodge in Swiss Cottage. This is a tourist destination in itself yet we lived there for about 10 days. It was the former home of Samuel Palmer of the Huntley and Palmers Biscuit Empire. If any of you are interested, it also serves… London, grey and dreary? |

After that we made our way to our new home: Palmer's Lodge hostel. Its not particularly new so its not nice in the way that the Paris hostel was, but its really nice in an old fashioned sort of way. And our bed is huge and very private considering there are 11 other… My, the time has flown! |

…to decipher the London Underground (thank god it's in English) until we found our way to Swiss Cottage station and from there to Palmer's Lodge, our bunk for the next two nights. Sadly enough no beds were available when we arrived, but we managed to wash up and crash on the couches until noon when they let us into our Harry Potter-esque room. Well not exactly… London England |

10 minutes later we were met with this:Palmer's Lodge. And the omniscient narrator in me assures you that it was the best place we stayed during the entire trip. Dinner was priority one, as it usually ended up being. I remember being absolutely ecstatic that we could get thai food for just… Spring Break, Day 1 |
