Luxury Hotel on the beach Mar 13, 2008
I stayed two nights at this beautiful Hotel that just opened at the beginning of 2008. This facility is also building condos on an adjoining property, so that is why we stayed here. We got a good discount, so I’m not sure of the standard room rate. I know it is over $100, so it is pretty expensive especially for where it is located. San Clemente is a nice small beach town with nice roads and tons of opportunity. This hotel is just the start for this up and coming community. It is located on the outskirts of the town, but a short five minute stroll and you’re in the center of town.

This hotel is first class all the way! The main problem I see is that the rooms are not equipped with air conditioning. That is not a problem for me, but they will be catering to a certain clientèle that will most likely want this feature. They do have mosquito nets so you can sleep with the sliding glass doors fully open. By the way all rooms have an ocean view with balcony or terrace, so there is not a bad room in the entire hotel. The rooms are big and roomy with a modern style bathroom and they fold the towels into little elephants :) The staff is new as well, so there are improvements to be made, but you can tell that they really do care about your happiness.

The restaurant, with a great view of the Pacific, is very classy. They serve very well prepared meals that have a very attractive presentation when brought to the table. The only thing about fancy places for me is that the portions tend to be small and I like to eat, so I never really got full of one of their meals. The food is delicious and the chef is a nice Mexican guy who will let you buy him a beer later in the night at the tiki bar. They have a terrific service staff that all seem to have a desire to learn English, which is good for those of us who were not smart enough to learn at least a little Spanish before coming Ecuador (I’m guilty). The prices will set you back quite a bit, a nice meal with appetizer and dessert (see pictures) cost about $18. My meal was included on the tour, or I wouldn’t have eaten there.

The property includes a nice tennis court, spa, gym, and a fabulous pool with chairs and big futons to soak up the sun. There is a tiki bar off the pool that makes great drinks with fresh fruit, but beware of the beers. The price is $3 for a Pilsner and it’s not even a Grande! There is a nice beach in front of the hotel, but a rock formation to the direct left and another a ways down on the right limit the amount of walking you can do on the beach. You need to plan around low tide so you can explore more of the area or you’ll be stuck right around the hotel.

This is not for the budget traveler, but it is a very nice place that is worth at least one night in paradise.
