Palm Beach Zoo West Palm Beach Reviews
Great Hidden Away Little Zoo Aug 15, 2007
You won't see any Polar or Panda bears at this zoo, but Palm Beach does have to offer Tigers, Jaguars, Black Bears, Emus, Anteaters, Ocelots, Alligators, Otters, Prairie Dogs, Flora, Fauna, and much much more. It took me about two hours to get through the whole place, and that was without taking part in the various shows and feedings that they scheduled throughout the day.
The park is divided into separate areas: American Wetlands, Tropics of the Americas, and Asia/Australia. The American wetlands offer the Black Bear, the Otter, and various birds, reptiles, alligators. Etc.
The Tigers and Kookaburras and Kangaroos are in Asia.
There's a complete 'taste of Mayan' culture in the Tropics of the Americas with various replica monuments and Panthers and more. Their collection/selection of Monkeys left a little to be desired, and there's no more unwilling photograph target than a monkey.
Personally, I had the most fun watching the Otters swim, the Prairie Dogs sunbathe, and the Bears tear apart a giant log like it was butter.
There's a fair amount of parking, and it only costs 12.95 to get in. If you bring your bathing suit there's a fountain built into the ground in the main courtyard that will allow you to get your 'waterplay' on. There's a couple of gift shops. The food left a little to be desired as well, but it was fairly priced over all. The vending machines are a rip-off, $2.50 for a 20 oz. bottle of Pepsi.
Still 12.95 to get in, free parking, and it's only five miles or less from the West Palm Beach airport. It's definitely something to do if you've got an extra few hours, or your waiting for a fellow traveller's flight to come in.
