Palm Beach International Airport West Palm Beach Reviews
Would I lie about PBI??? Feb 27, 2015
I was genuinely impressed with the Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) when I dropped in recently on a visit to see my father. Did a bit of research once I decided the facility merited a review, and was not surprised to learn it had been voted the third best airport in the US, sixth in the world, by readers of Conde Nast magazine.
What did surprise me was their annual traffic volume: over six million! I should have suspected that volume, because the airport was quite a bit larger than expected, especially given that it is so close to the Ft. Lauderdale terminals. There were spacious hallways and thoroughly modern conveniences, making for a very pleasant landing experience. Once you get into the main hallway there are a host of upscale stores, which was anticipated since Palm Beach has a reputation for opulence (don’t worry, my dad lives twenty miles inland in a low rent neighborhood).
There is a very relaxed arrivals area, complete with comfortable seats behind a huge plexi-glass wall for family and friends to wait. Getting out of the airport was a breeze, quick access to various highways with no traffic or confusing, twisty-turny roadways. When I returned and had to wait for my departure, I noticed a deep population of battery re-charging centers, so there wasn’t the usual smattering of folks plopped on the floor by the occasional outlet!
All in all, a well laid out and equipped airport. If you are headed for Miami environs and can score a cheaper fare to PBI, by all means go for it!
