Palisades Interstate Park Alpine Reviews
Interstate park along the Hundson River, New Jersey Aug 06, 2015
Palisades Interstate Park is located along the west shore of the Hudson River, New Jersey(NJ), in the city of Alpine.
The park is one of the best picnic and hiking getaways in NJ and also being close to the New York city, it is very surprising to find such a natural and historical park well preserved. The park stretches about 12 miles longer and half a mile wider with a dense-lush green forest with huge trees over a small rocky mountain cliff. The park is reported to have over 2000 acres of area with miles of hiking and skiing trail.
The hiking trails ranges from a short to a very long trails stretching for even about 30 miles. Each trail has a varying distance that ranges from a mile to few miles and they can be identified by a color name and marked along the path. The important thing to note about hiking in this park is that there are no restrooms or shelter once started ascending on the rocky hill until reaching the summit. So, it advisable to plan and manage for at least 2-3 hours without restroom brakes in some trails.
The hiking trails are not really hard to walk and I found it to be simple to medium level, so anyone without any prior hiking experience should be able to do few easy miles without much effort. My friends and I decided to do hike up to 7 miles of trails (White, Red, Aqua and Orange) leading to the upper summit/cliff and back to the Hudson river coast, which we completed within 4hrs by just taking couple of short breaks along the way.
Some portions of the trails are so hidden inside the deep woods with rocky terrain gives a feeling on being in a lone forest. The view from the cliff was so amazing that it gives the vertical elevation thrill and also looked scary of vertical fall! Though the major trail paths were very quiet, there happen to be some paths that were very close a highway which caused so much of traffic noise. That's the only thing concerned me little bit apart from the preserved nature.
