We'll take a 12 hour night train from Rome on August 4th, then wake up in Sicily!
We never have to change trains because the train will be seamlessly
ferried across the water while we sleep. How cool is that!

Palermo Sicily to Taormina Sicily: 5/14/08
Our
second day in Palermo started off with a nice breakfast at the hotel
which was included in the price of the room. There we sat on the top
floor with an excellent view of the harbor eating our typical European
Breakfast (ham, rolls, cereal and yogurt) amongst a bunch of German
tourist. I would from time to time catch a few words here and there and
listen in on the ...

Smooth and good flight across the Atlantic to green Amsterdam, perfect connection to Milan with exciting tantalizing views of Switzerland and the snowy alps! Just before boarding a tired Alitalia MD-80 to Palermo, asked the agent to check on Judge's flight, and said he (got the much earlier-than-ticketed) will arrive Palermo 10 min before I do. As it turned out, his flight was disembarking as I was off the plane and spotted him first! This seemed the biggest risk of the trip, each of us leavi...

It was a very early flight that sent me to Palermo, and I wasn't in the best of moods until I got onto the bus to the city from the airport and saw the blue sea: instant uplift! Palermo seems polluted and gritty, but is also interesting, lively and colourful. It's easy to walk around to all the sights, and they are well worth the visit, I especially enjoyed The Cathedral (every city seems to have one!). We also visited the Teatro Massimo, impressive from the outside but it was closed by the t...

Today we went to spend the day at the
beach on the other side of the island. It was a nice hot day and a
relax on the beach is just what was needed. It took just under 2
hours drive to get there, which gave us a chance to check out the
country side – not much to see. We did see quite a few large
marble quarries on the sides of the hills.
This beach reminded us a lot of home,
nice long stretch of white sand with people scattered all over. We
found our spot near the water and ...

So, our first city was Palermo. We didn't spend much time there, basically just went to Ballero Market, and the Palermo Cathedral. Both were really neat to see, the Cathedral was beautiful! It was very interesting, architecturally, since it is a mix of so many different styles. We also saw a really neat, huge fountain that was gorgeous. But, all in all, it was one of our least favorite places. It just wasn't what we were expecting, plus it was a little scary.

i've finally managed to escape the oh-so-fascinating world of hedge fund finance, and am now decadently indulging my long-suppressed wanderlust with 15 months on the road and around the world... *note: apart from the odd review (generally of something not found in your standard guide book), this is really more just a map of my travels than a proper blog, but if you want more information on anywhere i`ve been or what i`ve been up to, send me a message and i`ll see if i can rustle something up.

I did not spend much time in Palermo just passed through on my way to the Temple at Segesta and then back to Catania that is a good day trip to go and back again. If I ever return to Sicily again I will most defiantly spend a few days in the Palermo area.
The few photos I did get are of the Santa Maria Assunta (Palermo Cathedral) this is one of the oldest Cathedral around originally built during the Roman times but first found in Arab records mention the existence of a large "pagan" te...

In this photo you see the apse of the cathedral of Palermo. Palermo is my favorite city in Sicily and so I've traveled there too many times to count. The day I took this photo it was a beautifully clear day and honestly most days are like this in the Spring through Summer down there. I'm absolutely floored each time I see this cathedral because of the age and that it's lived through modern world wars and nature - incredibly it's still standing. This another one o...
