On the way there we more and more came into jungle and forest, everything was green and beautiful looking, exactly like i rememberd mexico from my first stay!
In the travelguide we found a hotel that we also tryed to find...it was amazing! looked like a jungelhotel with little bungalows and an awsome poolarea! After having our usual Jugo and a bit of relaxing we went off to see the 3. Maya village:D!T…

Originally, the plan was a little different. I had heard about something called the Pan-American Highway that extended in one way or another from Canada all the way down through Panama. There was about 60 miles of jungle and then the Pan-American Highway (South) would pick back up in Colombia and just head south to either Chile or Argentina, I forget which one. And so with nothing but the bag on my back on a handful of moxy, I was going to walk, ride and hitch all the way down to Panama. Afte…

We went out to the Mayan ruins of Palenque (that´s our second set of
ruins in a week!!). They were amazing despite the ridiculous heat...the
ruins were like a lost city set amongst gorgeous
jungle...apparently they were abandoned in 900AD and then were
completely covered by the jungle for hundreds of years! Cool huh! After
this overkill in ruins, we made our way through a secret path in the
jungle, tipped off by our landlady. Just when we were sure that
we had come the wron…

More Mayan Ruins, Ok I´m all ruined out now! But each site is impressive and distinctive. I am glad I have seen and experienced the Maya region and history.

After our first overnight bus from Campeche we arrived with sleepy dust in our eyes! We were taken by taxi to the middle of nowhere which in realty is a place called El Pachan, which is about 5 minutes from Palenque in the national park. With high hopes of using our hammocks for the first time we soon discovered that would be near impossible unless we wanted to be eaten alive!
We dumped our stuff and soon were change, when Naomi found out how tasty she was to the local insects, in engli…

The hot, hot sun in Palaneque is going to make you want an ice cream but whatever you do, do NOT buy ice cream from the ice cream shop right next to Hotel Shalom and Hotel Nikte-Ha. The owner there is a a typical "lets get all we can frm the gringos" kind of guy and eventhough the 3 pesos really didnt make or break me, Im disgusted with the simple lie (even after I questioned it) and would rather put my ice cream down and go elsewhere than contribute to his wrip-off the tourists. DO NOT GO TH…

It is always excited to do something for the first time in your life. Your first travel experience, your first kiss and for everything there is a first time. It was the same for me when we first arrived in Palenque. It was going to be my first time to see maya ruins in my entire life. Although still a little bit sick after eating the salade in Puebla we arrived in Palenque early in the morning. We didn't went to the ruins straight away, because we were stilling carrying our backpacks. We foun…

In november 2006 we travelled aproximately 4.000 km from the really crowded Mexico-City to the relaxed city of Antigua. Not only beautiful nature, friendly people but also al lot of experiences during the 21 days traveling through the Central Americans. Because it is a lifetime experience my page is called jacqinmiddenamerika :-)

BUS JOURNEY
Only 5 hours this time, woo!
I swear these buses are trying to kill me. We passed an overturned lorry, and a huge pile up on the way! To my right was a screaming kid, and I mean screaming! Behind me another kid who thought it was the best thing in the world to bang a metal pog off the floor. And the toilet was surrounded by spew!
DAY 1
Arrived at night, pretty tired. We went to El Panchan to stay and when I arrived all I could think was ´unbelievable´!
It is actually in the…

We're now in the state of Chiapas, home of the infamous Zapatistas, and wow what a different feel there is to this place. Still in Mexico, but then again it feels like we're in a completely different country. It's still very beautiful, however, there's more of a mysterious and magical feel to this place. Never know when Comandante Marcos is going to cross our path!! Nah!!!Getting to our destination was an interesting one, filled with lots of turns and all that good stu…

We're in Palenque now. Saw the ruins today and waterfalls tomorrow. Then a night bus to Cancun. We decided to pay the extra $7 for the deluxe bus, as we heard the route is currently taking longer than the posted 12 hours. Might as well be bored and motion sick in the lap of luxury. I'll add more later when I can post the photos.
UPDATE
Here are some pics of the ruins at Palenque. The height of the city was in the 600s, with King Pakal and his son S…

Mexico is probably the country I've visited the most, so I've got a ton of shots. Most of these are in my professional portfolio as well.

...so we´re really keeping on the move now. it seems like we´re going from bus ride to bus ride & something seems a miss with not enjoying the culture as much as we could.... but the truth is we´re just hanging to get back to the beach.
anyway, we found some neat accomodation in the jungle in palenque. the day we arrived we decided to check out the ruins (Maya). Amazing... semi reconstructed, but original sections still had the old stucco & enough details to really appreciat…
