WOW...what a view!! Oct 05, 2006
Rome was the last stop on a huge trip. We were initially supposed to fly home on my birthday but decided to stay an extra day; the only problem was that we could not find a hotel for the additional night. Since everything available last minute was ridiculously expensive so we settled on the Gladiatori, because of the magnificent view!!

This hotel is incredible. The hotel directly faces the Colosseum and has a gorgeous roof-top garden for drinks and food. The staff are accomodating and pleasant.

If eating in the hotel, keep in mind that they only serve light food in the evening - tapas style - but this was excellent.

I'm not sure if they don't allow those not staying at the hotel to go to the roof-top garden/bar or if it is just a hidden gem, but the views at sunset of the Colosseum from that perspective are incredible.

Even though it was a flawless stay I still think it was expensive...guess that is relative. For a special occasion this would be ideal.

Palazzo Manfredi Overview

A small, exclusive, and elegant hotel in the heart of Rome. This is the "Gladiatori"!From here history appears to you for real, you will be staying just a short walk from the Colosseum and you will be able to see the ruins of Imperial Rome directly from your room window. Friendly and impeccable service, together with the warm atmosphere of its richly furnished interior and rare marble, will make your visit to the Capital City of the world unforgettable. The hotel is new, but the building has quite a history. In Ancient Rome, four barracks for gladiators were built near the Colosseum. In 1937, the ruins of the most important, the so-called Ludus Magnus, were discovered between Via Labicana and Via San Giovanni in Laterano. As early as 1500 the Casino Guidi, a hunting lodge in the Guidi Gardens, stood near this ancient settlement. The historical building was transformed into a small but stately Gladiatori Hotel from where guests can admire the beautiful monuments of Imperial Rome. Opened in February 2003, the 'Gladiatori' offers all guests meticulously designed rooms to suit all preferences. Three standard and six superior rooms all over look the famous Colle Oppio and the Domus Aurea. An additional four deluxe rooms provide an exceptional view of the legendary Colosseum. In addition to these rooms the 'Gladiatori' provides a further selection of stylishly furnished suites. Designed with complete comfort in mind the spacious suites offer a master bedroom, a living room, two bathrooms, and are also complemented with the panoramic view of the Colosseum. Each room is decorated tastefully in complete style with rare marble and a romantic fireplace. This adds to the refined atmosphere throughout the 'Gladiatori'. The hotel is a unique and captivating place to stay and offers all modern amenities; satellite TV, fast internet connection, safe-deposit box and mini-bar. The Roof Garden contributes to the romantic atmosphere already embedded in 'The Galdiatori'. An evening complemented with candle light and your favourite cocktail allows one to truly appreciate the beauty of the Colosseum in the heart of old Rome, at sunset. Visible from the Roof Garden is the magnificence of the city at night as it lights up captivating all imaginations. The exceptional service allows you to taste a selection of traditional cheeses, salami and the finest wine. The Roof Garden is also the ideal location for a reception, private party or business meeting.
