Palantin Hotel Saint Petersburg Reviews
Affordable, location too far from metro station. Sep 18, 2011
We were staying in this hotel for 3 nights. Arriving at the hotel you have to ring at the gateway which was opened prompt each time. You cross a courtyard to reach Hotel Palantin. At the door you have to ring again (day and night), the door was opened prompt too.
Entering the building there is a small reception area. The young lady at the reception was very friendly. One of her colleagues was nice too, the other lady was detached. I have to say they seemed to work long hours.
As I was staying in room 4.3 I took the elevator (SOS information only written in Russian!) to floor 3. The ground floor is numbered as level 1.
The reception area in mind I was surprised by the size of the room: spacious! With a balcony and a spacious bathroom.
Not very happy with the beds, you could feel the springs of the mattress. Giving the room a closer look some of the wallpaper was damaged as was the ceiling. Not that much of a problem.
More serious was the cleanness of the bathroom: the edges of the shower cabin, the floor and the outside of the bin were definitely not clean.
Soap, shampoo, shower gel and a hairdryer were provided. In St. Petersburg it is advised not to drink tap water, normally spoken in this case hotels do provide one complimentary bottle of water to brush your teeth. Not the Palantin.
In the room were some ‘minibar’ items: beer, soft drinks, chips… But no fridge…. Who wants to drink a warm beer?
A small television and a/c (didn’t need and/or try them) in the room. A good thing: free wifi offered in your room.
The included breakfast: served in a very small room; I can only call it poor, the photo of the buffet may get you an impression.
The website of the hotel (www.palantinhotel.ru) is in Russian, German and English. I checked it the moment I’m writing this review; it says the temperature in St. Petersburg is 30 C. I can tell you, it is NOT!
About the location: when you walk fast (along a very busy road, a narrow sidewalk which is very busy too, lots of car exhaust) it takes 10 minutes (not 5 as the website of the hotel says) to get to the nearest metro station, Baltiyskaya. For 25 ruble you take the red M1 line (direction Devyatkino), the next station change to the blue M2 line (direction Parnas) and the second station is Nevsky Prospekt. The main road of St. Petersburg. The metro is cheap, hot, very busy and very fast. In 10 minutes from Baltiyskaya to Nevsky Prospekt.
A nice thing about the location of the hotel; thanks to the courtyard it is very quiet!

Affordable, slightly away from the main stree of stpb Jun 11, 2011
I stayed there for 2 nights. excellent room size with free internet. Its about 15 -20 mins away from the main shopping and happening area of stpb. a taxi can charge you around 200 -300 rub, whihc is a pian..metro station is about 10 minutes walk away.
Its safe and clean. Not a good choice of breakfast, which is repeated every day.
