Palacio de La Moneda Nov 25, 2013
La Moneda palace and cultural center are one of the focal places of Santiago. Palace is kind of neoclassical building built in 19th century and it had violent history. President Allende was killed here (or he killed himself with the golden Kalashnikov as they say) in his office during the military coup. It is still working seat of the president and some minister’s office, but some areas are open for public. Guardsmen in nice white uniforms stand at the all entrances and they are favorite picture background. It is called La Moneda because this building used to be a coin mint for more than 100 years. In the front of the La Moneda there is large underground cultural center with nice galleries, art space and restaurant.
