The Queen's residence in Edinburgh Jun 10, 2005
Holyrood Palace was originally founded as a monastery back in the early 1100s. In 1498 James IV turned it into a palace. It is the official residence of the Queen when she is in Edinburgh. Tours are allowed when the Queen is not in residence, but photos may not be taken inside. Only a small portion is actually on the tour, those with historic importance and those used for state functions. The Abbey is now in ruins due to the stone roof collapsing during a hurricane but its 800 year history included many special events at the palace. This is a wonderful tour and although not all inclusive it shows many wonderful areas and items.
