Pakbeng Overview

Pak Beng is a small village in Laos, located on the Mekong River about halfway between the Thai border at Huay Xai and Luang Prabang, Laos. It is mainly known for a stop over for boats running between Huay Xia and Luang Prabang.

Basically as at 2014, it is still a sleepy town with barely electricity running down the streets. Most shops & houses still rely on their own electrical generator. With the opening of Laos to tourism, this small town is slowly opening up to tourists who come here to stay the night before their next boat ride the next morning. As such, there are many small guesthouses, restaurants, bakeries and bars along the main street which can be seen clearly once docking at the jetty.
