After spending a delightful night at Pakbeng, enjoying a lovely dinner with a bunch of people from different parts of the world and going through the night without electricity rummaging through the darkness for my torchlight (courtesy of our guesthouse), we woke up the next day with hearts (and bod…

Despite our tummy troubles in Pai, we held up pretty well with our 8-9hr trip to Chiang Kong.
We got up pretty early the following morning to get a boat over to Loas, get our visas and sort out cruising tickets down the Mekong for 2 days. Since Neil had done the trip before (a…

Is it a bad sign when you can't sleep if you don't drink whisky? I think it is, but that's what happened last night anyways, so the 8 hours on the slow boat today seemed like it would last an eternity. We leave the hostel early, and it's not a bad place, for the price, it has a hot shower, whi…

So we are now making the long journey to the Thai border. Thankfully we are doing by a boat rather than spending two days on a minibus!!! The boat is like a really big narrow boat so you can get up and walk around. The scenery is gorgeous! All mountains along the river bank and loads of jungle. We …

I got up at 06:30 and was just in time to see some monks going around the streets for alms. After breakfast I checked out of the guesthouse and walked to the slowboat pier. At 08:00 I'm the first to buy a ticket for 200.000 Kip. Yesterday I was told that the slowboat leaves at 10:00 and by someone …

It's a little disconcerting that an hour in to the trip, the boat starts to rock madly from side to side, sounding like the propeller is grinding against rocks. You'd be inclined to just accept that this is normal, and everything will be alright except for the fact that locals were praying, a…

Luckily i woke naturally on time. Bought myself two baguettes, a whole packet of Oreos and water. Checked the internet and was horrified to find out the Springboks and Proteas had both lost! And in addition, Tech N9ne, my favorite hip-hop artist was playing in England for the first time while i was…
