PODs The Backpackers Home Kuala Lumpur Reviews
The only cheap option near KL Sentral Nov 21, 2014
Located about a block away from KL Sentral, the PODS the Backpackers Home is the only budget option that is within walking distance from the station.
Getting to it from KL Sentral, you will have to walk through the shopping mall called Nu Sentral. Then walk about a block, and look for the sign that is about 2 stories above. The entrance is not marked at all, so you will have to look into a doorway, with no door. It looks like any other building.
The reception is on the first floor (2nd floor for us Americans :) ). Also, there is a hangout area in front of the desk, and kitchen and a shower stall behind it, if one needs to shower if they arrive early, before check-in time.
The dorm rooms are on another floor, and the rule when entering them, is that you have to take off your shoes. This does take some getting used to.
The rooms are basic, with bunk beds and lockers with locks on them. You are given a keycard and a locker key, but you will have to leave a deposit for it.
The bathroom is on the other side, down the hall, is very basic and takes some getting used to as well. And not exactly sparkling clean, but not bad either. Still, I would wear my flip-flops when using the bathroom, thus breaking the no shoes rule. When using the showers, you will have to flip one of the switches to turn on the hot water (I believe). The shower stalls may not look nice, but they are surprisingly big enough, to hang your clothes and other belongings around and not get wet. That in itself, more than makes up for the not so nice appearance.
The staff is very nice and helpful. And there is a free breakfast, in the kitchen, which is okay. Plus 2 computer terminals for free internet, and Wifi is free as well. And there is laundry service as well.
And one other thing… the air conditioner is only turned on from 7 PM to 7 AM. That could be a huge problem for someone who sweats badly like myself.
Overall, a nice hostel to stay at. The walking distance to KL Sentral is a major plus, and very cheap as well.
