P.LOFT Youth Hostel Beijing Reviews
Jun 19, 2009
Our taxi driver had problems finding the hostel, but we got there eventually. It is a 5 minute walk to the nearest subway station, which is very convenient. Also located near the Lama Temple, there are things to see nearby.
The reception staff were exceptionally helpful, speaking fluent English and always being on hand to help out. They booked our flights to South Korea for us at no extra cost and gave great advice on getting around Beijing. They also offered a (admittedly overpriced) Great Wall trip on the JinShanLing - Simatai section, which is the part we wanted to do. It was excellent.
The hostel itself is a collection of 3 old warehouses converted into a hostel. It is very raw and gritty; my first impressions were 'prison-like'. The room was small, air conditioned, smelled of raw sewage, modestly decorated and with an en-suite bathroom (which had a shower curtain as a door). Provided toiletries included soap, shampoo and condoms (the hostel has pro safe-sex and anti-drug policies).
The food on sale was good quality and reasonably priced. There were special offers on beers and one night a free beer was given to all.
A basketball court is located in one of the buildings next to ta club bar which plays loud music if it takes your fancy. There is a second bar near the reception for a more quiet relaxed drink. The resident cats and kittens make things entertaining!
The only great thing about this place is the helpful staff. I wouldn't say avoid it, but it's not as good as it could be. I would not stay there again.
