A Classy Twist on a Classic Speak Easy in NY Oct 14, 2014
If, or should I say "when" you find yourself in New York, if you haven't been to PDT (which stands for Please Don't Tell) yet then put it at the top of your list for when you want to go out and enjoy nice cocktails in a classy venue.
Brief history: during the prohibition era a lot of speakeasy places popped up so that people could still sneak away and enjoy an alcoholic beverage somewhere. But you had to know about the place to get there. PDT in New York was one of those speakeasy establishments that still holds to that elusive approach today.
First, you have to get your name on the list. To do that, call the number on their website. I believe the phone lines open at 4:00, which means you should start trying to call at 3:45 pm. Get your name on the list for that evening and then when it's time, make your way to Crif Dogs in East Village.
Crifs Dogs is a hot dog joint, but not your typical backyard bbq dogs. Anyways, head to the old phone booth. Pick up the phone, and you'll be put through to a gentlemen on the other side. If your name is on the list for the evening then the side of the phone booth opens up as a secret entrance into one of the best cocktail lounges you'll find.
It's not a meat market, it's just a place to enjoy great drinks with good company. Their attention to detail is so great that they have ice perfectly shaped for each size of glass. How do they do that? Well, they have a ice sculptor that actually cuts their ice by hand every night. It's just that kinda place...
