PALLAWA,amazing traditional Torajan village Sulawesi Reviews
A living Unesco World Heritage site Sep 20, 2009
Pallawa located on a hill, 10 km north of Rantepao, near Pangli, is a very well-preserved traditional Torajan village less popular than Ke'te Kesu'but equally attractive and still a living compound with some inhabitants. There are there 11 traditional houses(tongkonan) and 15 ricebarns arranged as usual in two rows aligned east-west direction. The ancestral houses facing north are decorated with tens of waterbuffalos horns.
Although known as a turisty place with many tongkonan used as shops selling souvenirs from all over Indonesia,we have seen only one other tourist couple. We couldn't resist to buy a lovely ebony couple with striking "attributes"!
Few weeks ago a funeral ceremony was held and we saw its remains:temporary shelters and waterbuffallo horns drying on the ground.
