why not visit Oxford whilst visiting London? Apr 07, 2009
Why not visit Oxford whilst visiting London? It's fairly easy to go there: you just take a bus in London towards Oxford and within 2 hours you are in the old city-centre!
When I visited Oxford, it was the other way around: I used the bus to go to London. Not only was it cheap (around 10 pounds), you will also get a special view of the city when going (back) to London. The bus is comfortable and usually not crowded. Note: it is only around 10 pounds when travelling after 9 I think, but you should consult the travel-website.
Then Oxford itself. I was there for 7 days, and I did not get to see everything the city has to offer. Oxford has it all: old colleges, nice little boutiques, a great landscape for either cycling or walking, but also for the movie-freaks, the real sets of Harry Potter and multiple British crime-series.
It is also possible to visit the colleges for a small fee, and it is definitely worth the money. Old manuscripts can be found here in these colleges and by the way: do you know Lewis Carrol's 'Wind in the Willows'? Well, the 'willow-tree' he used as inspiration is also in Oxford.
Tip: the best thing to do whilst visiting Oxford is arrange a guided tour. That is where you will learn all these things and it makes it a lot easier for you to navigate around town, since the colleges squattered through the town.
All in all, a good change of scenery while visiting London and not that expensive to visit too!
