Oursi is a small town in the far north of Burkina Faso, surrounded by sand dunes. There is a lake that gets quite large in the rainy season and dries up almost completely in the dry season.
Besides the desert, another reason to visit Oursi is the archeological site. They dug up one large house with 7 rooms, dating back to the 10th century, but there is probably much more there. There are currently no funds to look further. Next to the site is a small museum.
Oursi is inhabited mainly by muslims of the Songhai, Fulani and Tamachek (including Touareg) tribes. On sunday there is a colourful market.
