Wild and tranquil oasis Jul 07, 2015
Oulanka National Park Camping Ground is stunningly set right inside the Oulanka National Park by the Oulankajoki River and Kourulampi Lake thus offering the oasis of tranquillity and natural beauty.

When you arrive on site you feel like you are entering uninhabited wild forest rather than a camping ground. A narrow rough terrain path leads you further inside this unspoiled woodland area.

Whilst on site what you see for most part, is the trees and underbrush. The very few campsite buildings are barely visible amongst the forest. They blend into the surroundings as they are all made of logs with grass covering the tops of the roofs.

The site offers various types of accommodation – they do have 10 cabins housing 4 people each, 20 camper-van/trailer spots all with electrical outlets and over 100 tent spots spread out into the forest.

All communal buildings and recreation ground are grouped in one area where you can find kitchen, showers, drying room for laundry, outdoor grills, spots for campfire and children playing area with swings and sandbox.

The kitchen building is pretty outstanding with many singular work stations allowing quite a group of people to prepare food simultaneously without bumping into each other every step of the way. Dining area is incorporated in the same building – there are tables inside besides the ones situated on the outdoor covered terrace.

The sanitary buildings were way above the standard expected in the place located in the middle of nowhere. Showers had warm running water and toilets had separate outdoor sinks which is indeed a brilliant idea.

The camping Ground reception runs a small kiosk where groceries and fishing permits can be purchased. It is also where you find a rental place for canoes and boats and you can reserve a sauna experience on the shore of Haaralampi Pond.

We arrived on site quite early and had plenty opportunities to pick a spot for our tent. A little away from all the other tents, surrounded by trees, so we could enjoy undisturbed sleep. Not that we had any trouble so far with noisy neighbours, but needed just a bit of peace and quiet.

I became fond of this place as it reminded me my scouting days and camping out in the wild nature few years back. And it cost us the whole €15 for the entire experience.
