Ouarzazat is also called the "Door to the dessert" and located in the south of Morocco.
Its name comes from a Berber phrase meaning "without noise" or "without confusion". It is also featured by its closeness to Atlas Mountains and Draa Valley.

Ourzazat is the Hollywood of Morocco. Parts of Gladiator and Jesus of Nazareth was filmed here ... and many other movies. But I am here for the kasbahs in the area.
Morocco is pretty open-minded ... some Muslim countries would be quite opposed to filming of movies like Jesus of Nazareth ... the movies would be blasphemous due to faces of people like Jesus, Moses or Abraham (who are also Muslim prophets) being depicted.

Traditional castles (kasbahs) built by the berbers and forever changing scenery.. the atlas mountains are very impressive. The majority of berbers still live in this region.. although most now speak arabic and berber languages. The mountains are the highest in northern africa. The highest point we reached was approximately 2500m. The high atlas mountains were covered in snow and the winding roads spectacular (if not a little sickening for some), our guide spoke of accidents...
