Otilia's Houston Reviews
100% Real Mexican Food in Houston, Texas Aug 09, 2009
Houston is known for Tex-Mex cooking, but surprisingly, real Mexican cooking (Mex-Mex) is hard to find.
Otilia's, a family-owned restaurant since 1992, is 100% authentic Mexican cooking at its best. Located in a former fast food restaurant, Otilia's serves a wide variety of delicious Mexican dishes.
All food is made from scratch. The menu tells patrons to be patient as Otilia's is not fast food.
My favorites include the enchiladas or the mole verde con pollo (basically, chicken breast with green sauce). Mole is a Mexican sauce, which can refer to a variety of sauces, including green, black, or yellow. There are several options available at Otilia's.
The cochinita pibil, which is lean shredded pork cooked Yucatan style, is also very popular. For those craving breakfast, breakfast tacos are served all day.
Drinks include a choice of frozen mango, peach, strawberry or sangria margaritas.
Although Otilia's is somewhat out-of-the-way, this restaurant is popular. One wall is covered with local, state and even national reviews.
A meal with drinks will probably run $15 to $20 per person. The staff is very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu.
If you are visiting Houston and want authentic Mexican cooking, Otilia's is the place to go.
