Oswego Vacation Guide

The city of Oswego grew up on the shore of Lake Ontario around the mouth of the Oswego River. There are many artsy and folksy shops in town, in addition to the usual fare. There are over 200 local watering holes, something of a record when considered on a per capita basis. The State University of New York has a campus here (SUNY Oswego). Located just past the campus is an area affectionately referred to as "The Loop," where Rudy's Fish Fry serves up filets, clams, scallops, hot dogs, fries and onion rings all summer long. Afterward, walk down the road to Bev's for ice cream.

Annual events of interest include the Fourth of July parade and fireworks, and Harborfest, which runs for 4 days at the end of July. Another local attraction is Fort Ontario, which was instrumental in turning the tide of the American Revolution in favor of the colonists, and is now a tourist site. The historic Erie Canal system and Fair Haven State Park can also be reached easily from Oswego.
