Ostroleka Overview

Ostroleka is a town in northeastern Poland on the left side of the Narew River (the youngest river in Poland). The name comes from a meadow grass sharp in touch. You know the kind of grass that is sticky or if you wear shorts it could give you paper cuts on your legs.

The history of Ostroleka reaches the end of XI century, when a defensive fortress was built and a village around it. Later that village became a City of Ostroleka.

In early 1807 in Ostrołęka the battle of Napoleon's campaign between French and Russian armies took place, won by Napoleon armies. The fact that name of the city was engraved on the Triumphal Arch in Paris, speaks for its importace.
