a lesson of WW2 history on a famous place Jun 30, 2015
The Oskar Schindler factory is famous because of the Steven Spielberg movie Schindler's List. The factory is a huge museum that tells not only the factory's history but also the story of the Nazi occupation in Krakow and Poland. It will take several hours to walk through and see everything. Take your time to read the several original documents to get an impression how it was like to live in Krakow during WW2.

The museum has a good variety of documents, displays, pictures, movies and recreated sets to illustrate the live back in the days so it's easy to spent a few hours and don't get bored because it's the same over and over again.

I would recommend to visit this place in order to prepare a visit to the concentrations camps Auschwitz and Birkenau. Off course i would recommend to watch Schindler's List before you're visiting this museum.

It's located at the edge of the city about 30 minutes walking from the main square or take a taxi (15 / 20 Zloty's)

Pity I did not make it there. But one can't do everything in one visit.

Very good historical museum Jul 10, 2015
In Krakow there is a lot of history. One of the best museums I've been to is this one. It shows the history behind the Nazi takeover in Krakow (and Poland in general). The museum is very well laid out so it becomes interesting and fascinating just walking in there.

It's not only just "read and look". You can also feel the history in there. It becomes very real.

I would strongly recommend this for anyone, no matter if you are super-interested in history (like me), or if you're just trying to learn a little more about the history of Krakow.

Don't miss it! It is well worth a visit.

Very easy to find, just take tram no 24 from outside the old town walls, it takes around 10 minutes. You could also walk there if you prefer.

Not a Must-See, But Worth the Visit May 29, 2013
The notoriety of this museum has had a little help from a movie you may have heard of by Steven Spielberg, Schindler's List. This was the factory that Oskar Schindler used during the Second World War to employ people (mainly Jewish) who would have otherwise been sent off to concentration camps, most surely to their death.

It took about 15-20 minutes to walk from the main market square to the factory. Entry cost about 20 Zloty for an adult and I spent almost 3 hours inside.

The museum doesn't focus solely on Oskar Schindler, but on the Nazi occupation of Krakow during WWII.

There was a short movie of the Factory's survivors, many artifacts, photographs and articles, but I found the room that was once Oskar Schindler's office most memorable...and quite eerie. The room itself holds Schindler's original desk and a massive glass encasing of pots and pans manufactured there. However, it was the creaking of the floors that made the hair stand up on my arms. The creaking was like the ghosts of the past employees filing through his office. It made me think of just how many employees would have come through the building to have their lives spared. Maybe it was just the mood that I was in that day, but the museum certainly left an impact on me!

I would definitely recommend taking the time to go through this museum, not to hear creaking floors, but to hear the stories of those who experience the Nazi occupation of Krakow during WWII.
