Great Mediterranean food in Alaska? Sep 03, 2006
You might not expect to find a great Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Anchorage, Alaska, but that's what you'll discover if you walk into Orso. This is a lovely restaurant with excellent service, and best of all, great food. I started with steam clams with lemon and cilantro along with bruschetta. Then I had a very tasty entree of silver salmon (very fresh) with porcini sauce. While they have an impressive wine list, I opted for beer that they feature from the brewery next door, Glacier Brewhouse. I ended up having beer from there at several restaurants. This time I opted for the oatmeal stout. Yes, it was probably too heavy for the light meal I had, but it was good nonetheless.

We were told not to venture into the middle of the lake as we would never make it to shore if we fell in the water. Point taken! When we returned to Anchorage that night, we ate dinner at Orso, which was by far the best place we ate at in Alaska (see my review). … Eklutna Lake |
