Orlando Vacation Guide
When someone mentions Orlando, you probably already have Mickey Mouse wandering through your head, and an undulating rollercoaster shooting in one ear and out the other. This sunny corner of Florida has certainly become something of a theme park Mecca, a fact that’s made it one of the most happy-go-lucky, family friendly destinations on earth.
From Harry Potter World at Universal Islands of Adventure (opening Spring 2010) to the impressive SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and of course Disneyland, you could spend weeks exploring Orlando’s theme parks, most of which are pricey and tacky, but a memorable experience nonetheless. Where else do you get to transport yourself into an underwater world, or become the star of your favorite film? You can even audition for American Idol without the excessive screaming queues and humiliating televised commentary to endure afterwards, and given those were the only downsides, why wouldn’t you?
When you’re done being a kid again, though (and let’s be honest, in this kind of environment that could take quite some time), there’s plenty of other attractions to get stuck into, too. The spa scene here, for example, is almost untouchable in its luxury, offering every kind of relaxing and rejuvenating treatment you’re ever likely to come across. For the guys, the golf’s pretty impressive, too.
You’ll find an inspiring selection of more traditional culture, like at the glass exhibit, City Arts factory (the perfect place to escape all the mayhem and relax in classy surroundings with a coffee) or in watching the vivid colors of the multi-style entertainers the Blue Man Group. Then there’s ballet, the philharmonic, and even jesters to keep you busy, as well as the national parks, and even ‘Gatorland’ (strictly for those without any hint of a nervous disposition).
You might have a preconceived image of Orlando as a bit… well… plastic, and you’re not entirely wrong, but it’s not something you can’t escape from. A relief if you’re thinking of the family, no doubt, and enough to make Orlando a worthwhile destination even for those without rollercoaster lust or a Disney fixation. Besides, it would be a waste not to enjoy all that sun…

Epcot Center at Disney World. I remember, even as a 12 year old that would normally have enjoyed the Magic Kingdom above all other parks, that Epcot was by far my favorite at Disney World. Maybe that was the scientist coming out in me. Epcot is a park where you can not only have l…
