Original Kayu Nasi Kandar Puchong Reviews
The best 24 Hours Mamak Stall May 24, 2015
No trips to Malaysia will be complete without experiencing a 24 hours all day long Mamak style street food. Mamak is a term coined which refers to the mixed Malay Indian community in Malaysia. The first Original Kayu Nasi Kandar shop was founded in SS2 Petaling Jaya back in 1974. However, nasi kandar was originally a Penang dish. These days they have nine branches distributed nationwide.
Nasi means rice in Malay while Kandar means lifting of heavy objects referring to the old days when Mamak people used to carry pots of delightful Malaysian curry to be sold in villages when physical premises weren't yet in existence. On top of the many nasi kandar dishes and curries, Original Kayu Nasi Kandar also offers many types of Indian breads such as paratha, thosai, naan and etc. One must never miss out trying the famous teh tarik (pull tea), a very localized method of drinking milk tea in Malaysia.
I highly recommend Original Kayu Nasi Kandar. Not only is the food is delicious and very representative of the Malaysian culture, the vicinity is also very clean and hygienic. Foreign tourists need not go through the agony of dysentery for trying out local street food. During football seasons, mamak stalls in Malaysia are usually jam packed with football enthusiasts looking forward to enjoy the game while avoid having to interrupt other family members. Mamak stalls have become a very integral part of the Malaysian culture.
**VERY SORRY TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE PUCHONG BRANCH WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. KINDLY VISIT THEIR WEBSITE TO LOCATE OTHER BRANCHES. THANK YOU!
