Transportation cost in Hong Kong is pretty cheap compare to other European countries or US. Metro network and bus routes are very well developed and covered almost the whole HK. You absolutely do not need to worry about the complexity of transportation network since it's far less complicated than London or New York. So if you can manage those, you'll be very fine in HK. Check out this site to get the cheap metro pass http://www.mtr.com.hk/eng/train/ae_tourtickete.htm. Metro is definitely the fastest way to get around.

For some oriental experience, you have to try riding on the tram on Hong Kong Island, which only cost HK$2 per ride which is unique on the Island that you cannot find in Kowloon or New Territories.

Also try to get on the Star Ferry to travel from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui, these two places are must visits in HK, do plan it as one of your night time activity to enjoy the fabulous night view of the harbour in the cheapest way.

Thanks Travelman727. Funnily enough we are staying right next to the mid levels escalator, so have been up and down it several times already, and I agree it is a good way to get around central and mid levels.

Nice review; Star Ferry is fantastic! Make sure you pay top price (still unbelievably cheap) to ride on the boat's top level.

My other favorite transportation is the escalator on Hong Kong Island. It's a great way to enjoy great views of Central and Mid-level districts for free.

Also, if the weather is good, riding on the top level of the British double-decker buses gives you great photo opportunities.

Victoria Peak A must do while in Hong Kong. The best views and pictures of the city are found here. You can spend an hour up here looking down on everything below. The skyscrapers, the boats and ships in the harbor and Kowloon on the other side. …… A day in Hong Kong
