Orient Express New York Reviews
All the coolness of a speakeasy without the b.s." Jul 05, 2011
Sylvia Plath would have said.....
Yes, Touch it: it won't shrink like an eyeball,
This wonderful bailiwick, clear as a tear.
Here's yesterday, circa 1940s ---
With slick hair, quick wit in a vest
A threadwork tapestry of libations.
Flick the glass with your fingernail:
It will ping like a Chinese chime in the slightest air stir
Though nobody in there looks up or bothers to answer.
The inhabitants are light as cork,
Every one of them permanently busy.
As Edwardian cushions comfort, a sea
Of delightful faces might please a collector:
They ring true, like good china.
Elsewhere bars are more frank.
The crowd rises and falls without letup, blindingly.
Here, a shadow forms a pleasant circle
It resembles a delightful summer moon or an auspicious sign
