Oregon Caves Chateau Dec 19, 2009
How to rate a facility that was built to service a somewhat isolated national monument and remains virtually unchanged since its construction in 1934. It's GREAT!
Remember you came for the Caves and the authenticity. Many of the rooms have their original decor and furnishings. However, everything is lovingly maintained and very clean. The furniture was in the old california style with hand painted flowers. It was really quaint and charming.
We took the tour of the caves. David has always loved caves so he was in heaven.. The caves are extensive and it's rather cool inside so it's necessary to bring a coat. A little bat was hanging in one section and the guide had everyone walk on the far wall so not disturb it... It was certainly my pleasure to not disturb it.... LOL ... no problem.
We also took the scenic hike around the area... the trails went over log bridges and up mountains. It was really beautiful. The trails were well marked so it was easy to follow the trail.
This is an experience as well as lodging. Relax and enjoy.
