Orchid Garden Suites Manila

As a guest, I was immediately charmed by Orchid Garden's laid back yet vibrant atmosphere. The people were so welcoming and hospitable, the staff was always smiling and willing to lend a hand.

The hotel has an old world charm...distinctly different from the other hotels we've stayed before. Their lobby was elegant and we liked the ground floor coffee shop as it was overlooking the pool surrounded by luscious ornamental plants. They served buffet breakfast and staff were all smiling.

The rooms were not necessarily elegant but were clean and comfortable. We were even upgraded to a suite room as the hotel was running full that day.Rooms are now WIFI ready as compared to our last previous stay. However, room service was only until 11 pm.

Overall, it was a great hotel to stay. We will definitely come back for our next visit.

A good value for the price, but I really question their website's use of the term "4-star luxury." The building definitely has charm, and the lobby is gorgeous. Sadly, our room definitely did not look like the pictures on the Internet - but maybe they have upgraded since 11/07? Our room was in great need of upgrades during our stay in November 2007, and would rate about 2 or 3 stars in my opinion. Our room had broken fixtures, scuffed up paint, torn curtains, mold stains, and had the smell of cigarettes in our "non-smoking" room.

The location is good, but not safe (in my opinion) for walking at night. I advise taking a taxi.

Bottom line:
I think you could be happy there if all that you expect is a safe and comfortable place to lay your head and to use as a base for Manila sight-seeing. But I think the hotel does themselves a disservice by telling guests to expect 4-star luxury at 2-star prices. Just don't expect too much, and you may be pleasantly surprised. At under $50usd, it actually was a good value for us.
