Orange Walk District is a northern district in Belize. It borders Mexico on the north and Guatemala on the west. It is not a heavy tourist town but does have cheap hotels and restaurants. It is more of a stop-over town if headed north to Mexico or to Lamanai Outpost.

The attractions that can be found in this district are Mayan ruins, including Cuello, Lamanai, and La Milpa. The Rio Bravo Conservation area is 300,000 acres of managed forest that has an up and coming tourism focus.

The agriculture of the area is mostly sugar cane or citrus. While some land is agriculture, there is a lot of preserved forested areas. With the largest bird population in Belize, with over 400 recorded species, this is a birders paradise.

From 2001-'03 I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer at Hol Chan Marine Reserve in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. I acted as the biologist and environmental outreach coordinator for HCMR. It was a very fulfilling experience. Belize and San Pedro will always hold a little piece of my heart. Note: many of these pictures are scanned images of film photos and are therefore not of a very high quality. They are here for the content. Sorry!
