Belize is my love. the country that calls to my heart. i have traveled to Belize 5 times for short term trips. my 6th trip began april of 08. i am here till March of 09...and maybe longer ;)

12.3.08 Bacalar to Corozal, Belize
We made it to Central America! Belize is terrific and we’re really enjoying it!
A creative breakfast of grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, yogurt, oranges, and whatever else was in the refrigerator. It is not easy when you force yourself to eat what you bought with your own free will. I think that is odd. Anyway, sparse fridge when done.

Including learning to teach English in Portugal; exploring the Canadian North and canoeing the Mackenzie River from Inuvik to the arctic sea at Tuktiuktuk; the Cypress Hills badlands in Saskatchewan; Jasper National Park in the Canadian rockies; a few weeks of relaxing by the sea in Cuba; and treking among the caves and the Mayan ruins of the Belize interior. From 2001-'03 I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer at Hol Chan Marine Reserve in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. I acted as the biologist and environmental outreach coordinator for HCMR. It was a very fulfilling experience. Belize and San Pedro will always hold a little piece of my heart.

July 20th marked the start of my participation in the Hurricane Dean evaluation. Dean affected the islands of St. Lucia, Dominica, Haiti and Jamaica as well as Belize in August of 2007. The Federation supported each national society and as a result of the extensive multi-country response, our regional office in Trinidad commissioned an evaluation to review the coordination efforts during the response.
