OpenKitchen Buenos Aires Reviews
Natural Gourmet Takeout Food in Buenos Aires Apr 01, 2010
Finally! I found natural, gourmet takeout food in Buenos Aires, the perfect lunch cuisine for the health and sustainability conscious downtown urban worker.
OpenKitchen has two locations, both on Reconquista to cater to downtown workers. Both are small restaurants, with minimal seating, both indoor and outdoor. They have incorporated the name into their architectural design by having no door or walled entrance. The place is literally an open-air kitchen right off the street. The decor is very hip but minimal, concentrating mostly on emphasizing their menu.
As for the food, they concentrate on lunch basics: salads, soups, quiches/vegetable tarts and sandwiches. Being an international themed restaurant, they also feature crepes that are artfully prepared in front of your eyes. I recommend the ‘veggie crepe’, which is filled with flavorful roasted winter vegetables like squash, zucchini, carrot and spinach and a touch of melted cheese. Delicious.
Their extensive sandwich list has enough variety to satisfy any picky eater, and includes paninis, wraps and both hot and cold sandwiches. A great feature of open kitchen is that you can see the ingredients and the food preparation, by doing so OpenKitchen accounts completely for the freshness of your meal.
You can get your coffee fix at their full coffee bar, which also boasts many delicious baked items. My favorite are the large soft oatmeal raisin cookies.
And if you’re looking for a regular spot – look no further, their daily specials are constantly changing, and the prices are very affordable for microcentro standards. You can expect to get a full lunch with a drink for around twenty pesos or even less.
If you work downtown they even deliver. Fabulous. For take out or an easy lunch downtown, OpenKitchen is a must try.
