Ooltewah Vacation Guide
Ooltewah is a Cherokee (native American tribe) name meaning "owl's nest." Most of Ooltewah now lies within the adjacent cities of Chattanooga and Collegedale. But at one time Ooltewah was the county seat of a now non-existent James County. This former Tennessee county went bankrupt in 1919 and was subsequently incorporated into Hamilton County. The county courthouse located in the town square at 9508 Church Street and is the community's main historic landmark. It is now the location of the Mountain Oaks Wedding Chapel.
