Affordable, isolated and rustic. Apr 18, 2012
I worked here from Oct 08 - Jan 09. An amazing little backpacker's hostel in an former sheep farm on the Bank's Peninsula, their land contains lots of different walking tracks and the beginning of the Bank's Track. They also do their own Kayaking and Dolphin swimming trips with Hectors dolphins which are native to NZ and endangered.

The main hostel has dorms, a double and a twin. Shared kitchen and shared outdoor BBQ/patio and hammocks, and amazing hot outdoor shower huts! There is also a large campground with separate facilities too.

I'd really recommend the place, the owner Steve always goes an extra mile to please his guests, and with it being off the main tourist loop of the south island you meet some great genuine backpackers.

Beautiful town, beautiful accomodation May 07, 2011
I love Akaroa, it's one of my favorite places in New Zealand. Staying here is like staying on a farm. There is no cell reception and no tv and half the place is outside. I stayed in the house and it was warm and comfortable and very quiet. They have these stargazer huts that I would highly recommend but you have to bring your own sleeping bag. It's like sleeping sort of half inside a hut, but you are mainly outside. Looks so awesome! It's a bit of a ways outside of town and while they have a shuttle that does runs to town a few times a day, I would only recommend staying here if you have your own car. It's a bit of a trek, even to drive, but well worth it!
