Onthel Kota Tua Jakarta Reviews
Onthel Kota Tua Apr 17, 2011
Onthel, rough translation will be Old Bike. On Fatahilah Square you will find many of this kind of bikes, rented for IDR 20.000 per hour, and you might find it a good idea for having Kota Tua Jakarta (Jakarta Old City) tour on old bike. Afraid to navigate yourself to unfamiliar Kota Tua? Don’t worry, you could ask for guide or you might find it’s more comfortable to have guide drive and yourself sit on passenger seat, your choice. It usual route is Pelabuhan Sunda Kelapa (Sunda Kelapa Port) – Museum Bahari (Maritime Museum) – Menara Syah Bandar (Syah Bandar Tower) – Jembatan Kota Intan (Kota Intan Bridge) – Toko Merah (literal translation, Red Store), off course you may had your own route, as long as you pay the rent ;). For the usual route, from my experience, it will take one and half hour or two, but it really depend on how long do you spend in each destination. Better start early morning (let’s say 7), at least for me because in sun I tend to faint, even though they provide hat, but note: Maritime Museum open at 9.
After finished your Jakarta Old City Onthel Tour, you might be thirsty or hungry, there are many traditional hawker food around Fatahillah Square and will cost you less than IDR 15.000 or you may choose Café Batavia—myself never been here, still need more courage to spend that much money to try food and beverage on this café. Or you prefer to spend your noon visiting museums around the square: Fatahillah Museum (or the correct name is Jakarta History Museum), Museum Seni dan Keramik (Art and Ceramic Museum), Wayang Museum (Wayang: leather puppet)—never been here, shame on me!
