One of the best places to see the "new" Romania! Cluj Reviews

Cluj-Napoca (Cluj to locals) is one of the best places to see what the "new" Romania - the country looking ahead in its new EU membership, rather than stagnating in its Communist past - is all about. Two major universities mean that it is possible to mingle with thousands of college students and other young people, most of whom speak excellent English and often like chatting with travelers, while the city's large Magyar minority (roughly 40%) gives Cluj a multicultural feel which few other places in Romania can match. There are a lot of things you can do in Cluj, and it's convenient to a few other destinations (two hours by train to Sighisoara, one by train to Bistrita, around three by train to Sibiu or Brasov). For me, however, just being in the city, with its all-night internet cafes (and the ever-present discotheque scene, as well) and its bustling bookshop culture, is well worth the trip by itself. The city certainly has a lot of history to it, as well, although some of it is hidden away in back alleys and hard to find, so you'll have to look around. In the end, Cluj is best viewed for meeting forward-thinking, internationally focused Romanians who want to share their cosmopolitan space. Trust me on this one - Cluj is a great stop if you're going to Romania!
The "old" Cluj - this is the house…
Old Cluj meets new Cluj; a traditi…

no bother mate. the thing is that theres a law in romania sayin that if there are more than 20% minorities in a city/town/vilage etc. then all the signs on the streets must be also in that minority's language. in cluj you cant see that. there used to be 40% at the begining of the 19th century.
cheers mate :)
